In the framework of the Psycho Free University event series, we present feature films and documentaries on the subject of the operation of the human psyche in critical and crisis situations, trauma processing, grief work, developmental history, identity search at individual and collective level.
The host of the series is Dr. Réka Szilárdi, professor of the University of Szeged. In all cases, the screenings are preceded by a short introduction, and after the film we will have a discussion with invited performers and experts.
The Dahomey kingdom was founded in the 17th century in West Africa and became a French colony in the 19th century. Invading troops took the royal treasures to Paris, from which twenty-six returned to their original home in Cotonou, Benin. The objects included the statues of King Ghezo, Glele lion, Behanzin shark man, and Bochio, who were of great importance to the locals. By using a specific narration form, director Mati Diop confronts the audience with questions that are far more universal than the first one.
